CAPE TOWN – Local authorities were on the scene for further investigations after a 17-year-old was pronounced dead on Tuesday morning following a fatal drowning incident at Melkbos Beach in Melkbosstrand in the Western Cape according to The Citizen.
Private emergency services provider ER24 said paramedics arrived on the scene to find lifeguards and members of the National Sea Rescue Institute performing CPR on a 17-year-old boy.
“ER24 and Life Healthcare immediately took over CPR, and initiated advanced life support interventions,” ER24 spokesperson Russel Meiring said. “After some time, the patient was transported to a nearby private hospital for further, urgent treatment. Unfortunately, the boy was later pronounced dead.”
