CAPE TOWN – Virgil van Dijk said he was “delighted and honoured” to be joining Liverpool FC.
The 26-year-old Dutchman will become a Reds player on January 1 for a world record £75m fee for a defender.
It finally ends a pursuit which saw Liverpool forced to apologise for an alleged illegal tap up of the player last summer.
Taking to Instagram, van Dijk said tonight: “Delighted and honoured to become a Liverpool FC player!
“Today is a proud day for me and my family as I join one of the biggest clubs in world football!(Image: Liverpool FC)
“I can’t wait to pull on the famous red shirt for the first time in front of the Kop and will give everything I have to try and help this great club achieve something special in the years to come.”
The former Southampton man also gave thanks to all the support he had had from the club and supporters at Southampton.
