JOHANNESBURG – Two Hawks officials have been arrested for allegedly stealing R1 million.
The officials, along with a police officer, stopped a car in September allegedly for driving at a high speed.
The driver insisted that they drive to a nearby police station where they searched his car and found R1.5 million.
Police say they then drove to Hawks offices in Johannesburg where the officers took R1 million, leaving the driver with the rest.
The Hawk’s Ndivhuwo Mulamu says: “The three police officers appeared at the Johannesburg Magistrates Court yesterday, and their court was postponed to 27 December for formal bail application while they are remanded in custody.”
She says the officers face charges of armed robbery and defeating the ends of justice.
