MILNERTON,WESTCOAST – Do you remember the famous movie Tomb Raider?

I bet we all do as what was once the home of a giant retailer is today the place where some of your popular documentaries, high-end international and local commercials, films and television series’ are made.

Believe it or not, Atlantic Film Studios – located on the corners of Marconi Road and Montague Drive, Milnerton – is also the place where popular movies such as Tomb Raider have been shot.

Atlantic Film Studios, which offers the international and local films and television industry massive amounts of production space officially opened two years ago and has grown significantly.

The building not only covers studios space but also production offices, an art department, post production facilities, equipment hire and digital workflow.

In a sit-down interview, the studio manager Brad Schmitt told Tyger-burger last week, that the idea behind the studio sprung forth when a group of private investors in the film and property industry came together.

“They saw the opportunity to create a studio, a very important element to the film industry,” Schmitt says.

Some of the local productions currently being filmed at the studio include Suidooster, and the talk show Kwela.
