CAPE TOWN – Western Cape Social Development MEC Albert Fritz says he’s been left traumatised following a shooting in Nyanga in which he and his entourage were targeted.
Fritz, his spokesperson and his bodyguards were attacked earlier on Saturday by two suspects outside a church.
One suspect was shot and killed, while another was seriously wounded.
The Independent Police Investigative Directorate (Ipid) is investigating the incident.
“We were not physically harmed, just very traumatized.”
Fritz says he’s in shock following Saturday morning’s shooting.
“We were in the middle of it all… it was so unreal and surreal. You always read about it or hear it’s going to happen… and suddenly it happens to you. It was hectic.”
Fritz says he’s more concerned about his spokesperson, Sihle Ngobese, and his security personnel who are “shaken up”, as well as the bystander who was wounded.
Those affected, including Fritz, have been receiving counselling.
The MEC says the incident will not stop him from continuing his work.
