LOS ANGELES – Idols judge Somizi Mhlongo is headed to one of the biggest stages of his career.
The entertainment powerhouse will host the red carpet of the MTV Video Music Awards in Los Angeles on August 28, to be broadcast across Africa.
Having hosted two music awards ceremonies locally with success, Mhlongo is not intimidated by a bigger stage.
He even slaughtered a cow and goats last weekend at his home in Orlando East to show appreciation to his ancestors.
“I slaughtered because I feel I have to thank my ancestors for all the opportunities that I get. I do that every three months, I don’t care if people think that ngithwele [using sorcery to make money].”
Mhlongo is set to jet out of the country in the middle of next month with a stop in New York to launch his new book, Dominoes: Unbreakable Spirit – The Somizi Mhlongo Story, before heading to LA.
“I am enjoying the moment and the beauty about this is that I am doing something that I love. I know it might not last long, but for now I am enjoying myself.”
The radio and television personality netted the gig while he was still celebrating the success of his book, which sold about 3000 copies in the first week of its release.
