Now the family wants nothing to do with the man.
DURBAN – A family from Nongoma, KwaZulu-Natal, was left fuming after finding out that their daughter’s boyfriend had paid lobola using stolen cows. The boyfriend, who was not named, had brought five cows and asked for their daughter’s hand in marriage, leaving the family in a celebratory mood.
However, things went sour after the real owner of the cows, Patrick Zikhali, went to the same house and claimed they were his cows stolen from Mtubatuba.
He told Daily Sun his 13 cows were stolen at the beginning of February. He then received a call from anti-crime organisation Isikebhe telling him his cows had been spotted. He found eight of them in St Lucia and the other five in Nongoma.
Now the family wants nothing to do with their daughter’s boyfriend – not even in the future, as they don’t trust him any more.
Colonel Thembeka Mbhele reportedly told the tabloid that three suspects were arrested and appeared in the Mtubatuba Magistrate’s Court last week. They will appear again on Tuesday on a charge of stock theft after being denied bail last week.
