MOSSELBAY – A man has been sentenced to life behind bars for the rape and murder of a 17-year-old girl from Little Brak River.
Lesley-Ann Maya’s body was found hidden among reeds near her home in the Powertown informal settlement in April 2015.
Nathan Mowers, aged 23, heard his fate in the Mossel Bay Circuit High Court on Thursday.
Maya was missing for more than a week before her body was found.
She was raped and strangled.
Police linked Mowers to the crimes through DNA.
Meanwhile, in the Western Cape High Court, Monwabisi Mbombo was sentenced to 15 years in prison for the kidnapping and murder of 21-year-old Anelisa Dulaze in Khayelitsha in January last year.
Mbombo confessed to killing the young woman and burying her body under a concrete slab, where a block of flats was to be built in Makhaza.
