CAPE TOWN – The City of Cape Town says it believes it’s taken adequate measures to minimise the impact of a music concert in the Green Point Urban Park on Wednesday.
The city has given permission for 12,500 people to attend the show by American folk rock band, The Lumineers.
It’s the first time an event of this magnitude will be held in the park at night and some residents believe the venue is inappropriate.
Green Point Residents and Ratepayers’ Association events coordinator, Brenda King, says it does not believe an eco-park should be used for an event of this nature.
“It’s just not right. We’ve got two old age homes within 250m.”
But Mayco member for assets and facilities Stuart Diamond says an independent acoustic engineer has been appointed to monitor noise levels.
“We’ve done our planning and we’re quite excited about The Lumineers for what we feel is an intimate setting.”
Diamond says prior to the 2010 World Cup, this area of the park was always designated for events.
