CAPE TOWN – A farm manager in the Western Cape has been admitted to hospital after he was attacked by farm workers‚ police said on Tuesday.
Police spokesman Captain FC van Wyk said the incident took place on Monday.

Paarl police received a “complaint of fighting” on a farm in Schuursmansfontein Road.

“Preliminary reports are that a group of farm workers informed the police that some of the workers were upset about not receiving their wages for the past week‚” Van Wyk said.

“They then approached the farm manager armed with various weapons and a fight broke out.”

When police arrived‚ the manager had already been taken to hospital and Van Wyk could not confirm the severity of his injuries.

The Cape Winelands have been the scene of bitter disputes between workers and farmers in the past. In 2012‚ thousands of farm workers embarked on a prolonged strike‚ which often exploded into violence.
