CAPE TOWN – Butterworth Police in the Eastern Cape have arrested a 35-year-old man for the alleged rape of a 67-year-old woman.

According to a statement on Monday, the victim was asleep on Friday at her home at Mkrwaqa Village, Butterworth.

“The suspect is alleged to have pushed the door open and entered. He allegedly raped the victim on the night in question at about 23:00. The suspect then ran away. He was identified by the victim,” police spokesperson Captain Jackson Manatha said.

Police attended the complaint and were shown the home of the suspect where he was found and arrested.

“The suspect is expected to appear before the Butterworth Magistrate Court on Monday, March 13, on a rape charge,” Manatha added.
