CAPE TOWN – The case against a teenager and his uncle accused of the murder of author Winnie Rust in Wellington, has been transferred to the Western Cape High Court.
Nigel and Johannes Plaaitjies appeared in the Wellington Magistrates Court on Tuesday.
They were arrested shortly after the 77-year-old’s body was found at her home in Wellington in May 2016.
Rust financially supported 18-year-old Nigel Plaaitjies from a young age, and also paid for his tuition and sport fees.
The promising athlete claims his uncle Johannes Plaaitjies had forced him to participate in the robbery at Rust’s home, which resulted in her murder.
The court says that claim has placed teenager in a worse position.
He testified in his own defence during his second bail hearing and the court found he tried to shift the blame for his actions.
The two will now appear in the Western Cape High court in May.
