A shepherd tending sheep and cattle found a newborn baby girl‚ police said on Monday.

Police spokesperson Captain Jackson Manatha said the baby was found alive on Wednesday March 1 at the KwaSotomela Location near Walter Sisulu University‚ Eastern Cape.

“The shepherd alerted three high school students that he saw near the scene… about the baby. The pupils contacted Msobomvu Police Station.

“The baby was taken to Butterworth hospital where she is being kept‚” Manatha said.

He said that a case of child abandonment had been opened.
